The book focuses on the ups and downs of family life and the rewards of religious and marital devotion. Paul and Carol started dating in 1967 and got married in early 1970. Paul was drafted and then sent to Vietnam for fourteen months. The separation was nearly unbearable for both of them. Returning home, he finished his business degree at Indiana University and started his career with Kroger. His meteoric rise in the corporate world was admired and encouraged. He worked for Kroger for forty-five years, retiring in 2011 as a senior vice president. They moved to Tennessee and built their dream house on Norris Lake, where they were deliriously happy. This was truly the happiest chapter of their lives. They professed their gratefulness and love for their circumstances and each other constantly. The heart-wrenching end of the book details Paul’s death from a heart attack. He died in Carol’s arms.
