Do you ask your children, “What is the magic word?” or something similar to that when prompting them to use a polite word? Do you every stop and think of how many possible answers there could be for a single prompt like that?
This book takes everyday situations when a parent might say, “What do you say?” to a child. Each time this prompt is used, a conversation bubble appears above the child’s head with a list of the possible answers the parent is looking for. The parent and child reading the book can then talk about what they think the correct answer would be. In addition to common polite words, the book touches on occasions when a child might receive a gift.
My hope is that this book teaches children to be more polite.

Marilyn Tate Wilson is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, but when she met her husband, Rick, in 1976, they found their way to Los Angeles. In 1980, they got married in the famous Wayferers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. Shortly after, they moved to Eugene, Oregon, where their twin sons were born. However, they moved back to California in the depressed economy of the early 1980s. They settled in San Diego, near her mother. Her twins are now thirty-four, and she has three grandchildren between the ages of one to ten.
She ran her own day care business when her boys were in elementary school. When they got older, she worked as a nanny for several different families. Teaching young children when to use polite words has been part of her daily life for over thirty-four years. She strongly feels that raising polite children should be a goal of all parents globally.
