About The Author

The author with his wife Ellen, 1987, San Antonio, Texas Born in August 1946, the author spent his early years in Beachwood, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. At age nine, he, his brother Jay and his mother Dorothy moved to Bethesda Maryland to join Laurence, who was due to rotate stateside after extensive travel throughout South America as a Foreign Service Officer. Instead, they soon joined Laurence in Asuncion, Paraguay. There, amidst childish play in the dirt streets of Asuncion, the author watched his father strive to build a society of tolerance and democracy within the long-held military junta of Alfredo Stroessner.

By the winter of 1957, the family moved to Lahore Pakistan, another bastion of military rule, albeit with brief respites of corrupt civilian rule. The author returned to America in 1962 from what is now Bangladesh, experiencing culture shock for the first time in his life. In 1969 his draft number came up and finding the prospect of the Air Force preferable to the Army, he enlisted in the spring, traveling to Istanbul, Turkey for a nineteen-month tour. It was there he met his future wife, Ellen. They married in May 1980, a marriage filled with love, respect and trust that ended with her death on September 9, 2004.

This is the authorÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s second novel.
